Summary
It's 7:00 pm. You are sitting in a lively restaurant having a family dinner. But something unexpected happens. A group of jolly, instrument-bearing Santas charge through the doors loudly playing the song Santa Claus is Coming To Town.
Let me clarify.
About 20 full-grown adults— doctors, lawyers, managers, teachers— and I march through the restaurant in red tights, furry shorts, and suspenders playing Christmas music on trumpets, trombones, saxophones, and drums. While this scenario might seem more like an embarrassment to my community than an improvement, this group is much more than meets the eye.
Over the years, Santa's Goody Bag Band has raised over $100,000 for Shriners Burns Hospital, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, and Cancer Free Kids. We do whatever we can to make sure that kids can get life-changing medical care regardless of their ability to pay. And that means parading around Cincinnati dressed in red tights, furry shorts, and suspenders to do so.
Santa's Goody Bag Band is an incredible organization that has taught me so much about myself and the world. I have gotten to interact with and bring joy to people from all walks of life and people who have faced terrible ordeals. This group is incredible in that it helps people pay for medical care, but it is also incredible in that it brings joy to people while doing it.
